Drew Larson - A Voice for Minnesota Youth with ASD
Drew Larson, a senior at Eastview High School in Apple Valley and youth with autism spectrum disorder recently became a representative on the Minnesota Youth Council. He is joined by his mom, Susan Larson, as an adult representative on the council. Ms. Larson is on the Board of Directors for the Autism Society of Minnesota and is with Best Buy’s Employee/Internal Communications team. Drew has been a spokesperson for ASD for the past two years and is more visibly known in the autism community for speaking at the Autism Awareness Rally at the state capitol. He also has spoken in other venues educating the public about what people with ASD can contribute to their communities, especially in the area of employment. The Minnesota State Council on Disability was proud to nominate Drew for this council and looks forward to his continued leadership on behalf of youth with ASD as well as for the broader disability community.
The Minnesota Youth Council provides youth with a forum to exercise their voice by connecting and mobilizing youth voice and youth action, discussing policy issues, and advising the work of the Minnesota Alliance With Youth and its partners. It provides a forum for youth representatives to strengthen their voice and engage in dialogue with legislators and policy makers at the local and state level.
