SUMMARY:MNProv Mixer Virtual
DESCRIPTION:The MNprov Mixers are a safe place for neurodivergent adults (18+) to have fun\, meet new people\, increase confidence\, and decrease stress. No experience necessary. This event is FREE. Come every week\, or only once\, or somewhere in-between. \nImprov is inherently inclusive. All participants are needed for a scene to succeed\, and everyone’s suggestions are incorporated into the scene. The improv rule of “Yes\, and . . .” allows participants to feel safe and supported and more willing to take risks. As players say “YES” to each other and add their own ideas\, they build trust and create something brand new together. \nThis is a small group activity with fewer than 20 participants. Individuals are welcome to take breaks as needed. Participants are encouraged to let us know how we can best support them. Because this is on ZOOM\, participants from greater Minnesota have an accessible way to attend. \nA social narrative about the MNprov Mixers workshops and a registration link can be found on our website.

SUMMARY:How the Grinch Stole Christmas Sensory Friendly Performance
DESCRIPTION:A miserly and miserable\, ever-so-cantankerous Grinch has observed the despicable Christmas joy of the Whos with disdain\, from a distance\, for decades. Enough! In this CTC holiday favorite\, filled with music and Seussian rhymes\, he plots the greatest heist imaginable—stealing the very thing they love the most! Until\, that is\, the smallest of the Whos\, tiny Cindy Lou\, extends a hand. Through the combination of kindness and community\, we witness not only a change in the course of Who-History\, but the size and capacity of the old green guy’s heart.

SUMMARY:Sensory Friendly Performance A Minnesota Nutcracker
DESCRIPTION:Twin Cities Ballet’s annual production of A Minnesota Nutcracker has been a beloved holiday tradition in the South Metro since its inaugural performances in 2003\, and this year it comes to Northrop! \nExperience the beloved holiday classic with a Minnesota twist\, which maintains the essential traditions\, story\, and music beloved by so many\, but adds Minnesota flair\, brought to life by the powerful athleticism and artistry of TCB’s dancers. \nClara encounters iconic Minnesota characters and locations on her magical journey: the State Capitol’s Golden Horses\, Cascading Waters\, tiny Bluegill fish frolicking by a Mississippi River Paddleboat\, and\, new this year\, Vikings\, and Minnesota’s state bird and flower\, the Loon and Ladyslipper. \nDeemed one of the twelve essential holiday events by MPR\, TCB’s A Minnesota Nutcracker is delightful entertainment for the whole family! \nFor this relaxed performance\, house lights will remain at a glow\, sound levels will be lowered\, and the audience will be warned of any surprises. Attendees can come and go as needed\, assisted by ushers trained to accommodate movement and sound. This performance is “Pick Your Price.”

SUMMARY:The Best Christmas Pageant Ever - Relaxed Performance
DESCRIPTION:For every mainstage show in our season\, Children’s Performing Arts hosts a relaxed performance. This allows patrons with sensory\, social\, physical\, and cognitive needs to attend a production in a safe and welcoming environment. Modifications to this performance include lights remaining dim in the audience\, elimination of intense lighting and sound effects\, and audiences being free to move around the space and make any noises they need to make. Fidgets\, noise-canceling headphones\, and modified seating are also welcome into the space! \nIn this hilarious Christmas classic\, a couple struggling to put on a church Christmas pageant is faced with casting the Herdman kids – probably the most inventively awful kids in history. You won’t believe the mayhem – and the fun – when the Herdmans collide head-on with the story of Christmas! \nA social narrative and character guide will be sent to all ticket holders the week of the show.

SUMMARY:Sensory Friendly Event - Eagles Nest Indoor Playground
DESCRIPTION:Does your child or someone you are close to\, have a child that has challenges with traditional playground settings? How about large crowds? New Brighton Parks and Recreation understands that not all children can attend the Eagles Nest during normal business timeframes. That is why we have partnered with the Minnesota Autism Society to create a series of Sensory Friendly events at the very popular Eagles Nest Indoor Playground at the New Brighton Community Center. \nThere will be a limited number of admissions sold at a reduced rate for each session. Each is from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Attendees can guarantee admission by pre-purchasing admission for their children on the City’s website. \nThe Parks and Recreation Department will have additional staff on site to assist with accommodation requests\, as well as a quiet space for those who need a break during the event. \nLori.Hokenson@newbrightonmn.gov

SUMMARY:Dance Theatre of Harlem\, relaxed matinee
DESCRIPTION:A singular presence in the ballet world\, Dance Theatre of Harlem presents a powerful vision for ballet in the 21st century. This multiethnic company performs a forward-thinking repertoire that includes treasured classics\, neoclassical works by George Balanchine and artistic director Robert Garland\, as well as innovative contemporary works that use the language of ballet to celebrate founder Arthur Mitchell’s belief that ballet belongs to everyone. The mixed program at Northrop includes renowned choreographer William Forsythe’s Blake Works IV (The Barre Project)\, created specifically for Dance Theatre of Harlem and set to the electro-soul music of British composer James Blake. \nDuring Saturday’s Relaxed 2:00 Matinee at the Carlson Family Stage at Northrop\, house lights will remain at a glow\, sound levels will be lowered\, and the audience will be warned of any surprises. Attendees can come and go as needed\, assisted by ushers trained to accommodate movement and sound.

SUMMARY:Little Shop of Horrors - sensory friendly
DESCRIPTION:A frightfully funny musical\n\nOn Skid Row\, Mr. Mushnik plans to shutter his failing florist shop when his timid staffer Seymour presents an exotic-but-wilted flytrap named Audrey II. Convinced it will boost business\, Seymour encourages Mr. Mushnik to display the peculiar plant\, which Seymour successfully revives. As Audrey II draws much-needed crowds to the shop\, Seymour makes a disturbing discovery: It needs fresh blood (and lots of it) to grow — a secret that forces Seymour into a Faustian bargain to keep his fame and fortune intact. A hilarious mashup of science fiction\, horror and musical theater\, this cult classic boasts Motown-inspired hits like “Feed Me (Git It)\,” “Suddenly\, Seymour” and “Little Shop of Horrors.” \nThe Guthrie’s relaxed (or Sensory Friendly) performances\, open to all patrons\, are intentionally modified to accommodate patrons with sensory and vestibular sensitivities\, anxiety\, dementia\, autism spectrum disorders\, learning differences or challenges attending the theater.
