Athletes on the Spectrum

Anthony Ianni played basketball for Michigan State and was the first Division 1 basketball player known to be on the autism spectrum. Since graduating from MSU in 2012, Anthony has toured nationally as a motivational speaker and an autism advocate.

Anthony is now working on his next book. When Anthony was growing up, many people discouraged Anthony’s parents from signing him up for sports, even though they were both athletes themselves. People were especially pessimistic about team sports. Anthony and his collaborator, Rob Keast, are collecting stories from young athletes on the autism spectrum, their parents, and their coaches. Anthony and I want the next generation of athletes on the autism spectrum and their supporters to receive as much guidance and encouragement as possible.

We are looking for people who could tell their stories to us: their successes, their frustrations, and their advice. We are interested in coaches and athletes from every sport and at any level of competition. If you would like to contribute, please contact Rob Keast at
