Obtaining Assent in Service Provision for Autistic Individuals

Obtaining Assent in Service Provision for Autistic Individuals

Obtaining consent and assent is required in the research context with protections put in place for vulnerable individuals. It’s less common for assent to be considered in service delivery; in particular obtaining assent from the recipients of services themselves (e.g., Autistic individuals). Obtaining assent is further complicated when individuals are unable to provide it through traditional means (e.g., written). Panelists will include service practitioners, neurodiverse individuals, and care providers/educators of Autistic individuals. Panelists will discuss assent and the implications for Autistic individuals receiving services. The majority of the session will be spent in small group discussion sharing perspectives.
