I was diagnosed with autism at the age of 47. Due to a lack of professional support and a negative reaction from a few family members and friends, I did not seek deeper understanding of this diagnosis until the age of 59. Subsequently I realized I had spent over four decades using alcohol as self-medication for autism, ADHD, and the trauma associated with my lack of awareness. Since
coming to terms with these issues, my purpose is to bring knowledge and awareness of neurodiversity-related addiction issues to others on the spectrum. I currently work with young adults confronting addiction recovery and mental health issues. In my third year as an active member of a 12-step program, I am expanding my knowledge through a Masters Program in
Addiction Recovery and Mental Health.
