Transition Study

My name is Mallori Sheik and I am a Doctor of Social Work student at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul MN.

I am currently looking to recruit participants for my study regarding childhood experiences, and independence among adults on the autism spectrum.

The purpose of this study is to better understand the transition to adulthood for individuals on the autism spectrum (i.e., autistic adults). I will examine childhood experiences of adults who have gained and maintain employment and who are living independently (e.g., outside of their parent’s homes and paying their own bills).

This research is part of a dissertation project.

There are two target participants in this study.

You are eligible if you are:

  1. Parent/guardian who raised a child (now adult) who was diagnosed on the Autism Spectrum (e.g., Asperger’s, PDD-NOS, Autism level 1, or Autism without a language delay) and who:
  • Is 18 years or older
  • Gained and maintains employment
  • Is living independently (e.g., outside of their parent’s homes and paying their own bills)
  1. Adult diagnosed on the Autism Spectrum (e.g., Asperger’s, PDD-NOS, Autism level 1, or Autism without a language delay) and who:
  • Is 18 years or older
  • Gained and maintains employment
  • Is living independently (e.g., outside of their parent’s homes and paying their own bills)

Participants would be asked to participate in a 60-90-minute interview asking about childhood experience. Gift Certificates of fifteen dollars will be provided for participating in the study.
